AFLW Mentor Coach Jacinda Barclay explains football application process

2020 WOMENS FOOTBALL:

 

What: International Performance Training Camp & Tour

 

When: October 2020

 

Where: TBA

 

Who: Motivated Women, Ages 15 to 29

 

Why: 

 

1.) Take football skills, preparation, mental approach, & professionalism to next level 

 

2.) Receive coaching/mentorship from AFLW players, & top coach in women's football

 

3.) Have an incredible life experience as an ambassador for our national game

 

4.) Perhaps be drafted to AFLW roster, as previous players have done while on tour!

 

Coaching Staff: 

-Head Coach Nicole Graves is considered one of the best coaches in women's football, and has recently been the general manager for women's AFLW at the Carlton Football Club in Melbourne. She has won multiple premierships as a player in Victoria (VWFL), and as a head coach in Western Australia (WAWFL). She former defensive coach for Western Bulldogs womens program, and former head coach of the AIS AFL Women's Academy team. She is first women to be AFL Level 3 certified, and is also a certified AFL player agent.

-Program Co-Founder & AFLW Player Consultant Jacinda Barclay is truly a "multi-sport professional athlete." As a pitcher she decisively led the Australian national team to a silver medal at the Women's Baseball World Cup in Venezuela in 2010. As a gridiron quarterback, she led Sydney to an Australian championship (2013/14) and New Zealand to Tri-Nations Cup victory (2014/15), before slinging Chicago to the American championship in 2016. She returned to Aussie rules football in 2017 for the inaugural AFLW season, where she continues as a forward for Greater Western Sydney Giants.

-Outstanding previous staff have included Fremantle Docker captain Kara Donnellan as an AFLW mentor coach, fitness specialist Nicola Vrachnas, and physiotherapist Christine Goonewardene. We look forward to their continued involvement as circumstance allows in the future.

Selection Criteria & Process: 

 

Aussie Sparks will conduct a rolling application process with applicants being accepted as they are identified with the right makeup. Players not selected will be waitlisted to reserves list.

Selections will be based on ability, current competition level, and character. Staff will use applications, recommendations, and scouting. Additionally, other available video and statistical data will be utilised to create a high quality squad best suited for the experience.

Cost & Fundraising:

 

Aussie Sparks athletes are primarily self-funded. Cost details and payment options will be sent as part of tour summary document upon completing online form. Currently we have partnerships with Pacific Headwear and The Red Balloon Candy Artisans to help players raise significant funds.

  1. EXPRESS INTEREST: Complete the online expression of interest. Then receive tour summary.

  2. SUBMIT INITIAL APPLICATION: Complete online application and submit AU$350 refundable deposit. 

  3. PLAYER VIDEO: Within 7-days of completing online APPLICATION, please submit short and simple player VIDEO. For guidance, follow Coach Barclay's instructions above.
